F-12 hyd lift?

Have a question about a big gear box that sit under the seat, and has two arms going toward the back. It is on a 1935 F-12. It has two lift control arms upward like a cultvator lift. Is this a hydrolic lift assit? and what is it"s estamated value? Tractor also has tall rear steel, about 54-56" tall to top of lugs, Is this taller than normal?
Thanks,
Kevin

Yep, that is a hydraulic lift. It was used with several implements that were designed to work with it. It should have a manifold assembly that goes from the lift to a pump on the left side of the shaft that drives the belt pulley (viewed from the drivers seat). As to value, maybe $150? The tractor seat is mounted on a piece of spring steel that curves around the lift. When the tractor has this pump mounted on it, you cannot use the post type seat.

thanks, the seat is on spring steel like you said. I didn't get a good look at it as it is sitting in a corner of a old dark barn. I will have to go look closer with a light

The F-12 has 54 inch diameter wheels on the back. These are larger than those on the Farmalls H or M which had 51 inch wheels if on steel.
The hydraulics unit came out about 1935, but I have never seen one in NZ. Lots of F-12s and F-14s just none with the hydraulics lift. Why the Farmalls H and M did not copy the lift are arrangement I do not know, would have been a good step towards a 3 point lift later in life. The rotating vane aspect must have caused maintenance difficulties as no one seems to have copied that aspect. Instead most systems use a standard type hydraulic cylinder operating a crank shaft to rotate the arms. At least the piston would be easier to seal than the sides and end of the vane in the F-12 system

Ill add its just up and down, no depth control on it at all. I paid 100 bucks for mine in 05, it works, but makes the trans holler more than it already does on my 14.

My father (and I) used a 1938 F-12 with this lift for at least 13 years. Admittedly, it was used only with the cultivators in the summer. We never had any trouble with the vane. I don"t know offhand if this lift was used with anything else than the cultivators. I DO know that it was not used on the mounted 7 ft. mower, and THAT really needed some help. My right shoulder still aches, and its been 60 years since I last lifted that thing.
