Farmall M Battery Measurements

I have a 44 Farmall M 6-volt system. The battery goes under the fuel tank. Unfortunately I can not find the battery box, and I do not want to replace it until I am ready to completely restore the tractor. However I do need a battery to start the engine and I want to buy one that will work with the battery box. Does anyone know the measurements for the battery.

if you want the battery that your m battery box was designed for go to your favorite battery store and buy a group 2 battery.

BCI group 2 is correct.

Sorry guys it takes a group 3 to fill up the battery box.

11 1/2 long x 7 wide x 9 3/16 tall.

A group 2 will barely crank a freshly overhauled M with fire crater pistons and a Super M head on a good day. BTDT.

It takes a group 3 but be warned they cost a small fortune.

I ended up going with an 8 volt (same size as a group 1 6 volt) since that was what was in my SM when I got it. Since then I've been told a group 2 works fine in place of a 3 but there will be some space around the battery.
