wheel weigs

Put wheel weighs on the old h last night. I held the weigh in place while my 14 year old son put the bolts in. Getting to old to pick up that much weigh. Aside from waiting 6 years till my son turns 20 and he can hold the weighs is their a better way? How do you guys do it? thanks dan

On my SMTA I have to throw three or four sets around for tractor pulling. I took a couple smooth rods and put them in two holes and they act as centering pins.
It is not a perfect setup bc the weights must move enough to eat up the cotter pin on the inside to hold the pin in place. I use all thread to hold the weights on and this is not ideal either bc it comes loose over time when doing field work. I suppose if I were to use this setup for more than 300' trips I would double nut it and that should hold it tight.

There really is no easy way to install weights. Having someone else to poke the bolts through helps immensely.

I just put weights on my H, and I did it by inserting the bolts in the wheel hub so that they stick out on the side where the weight goes and then trying to slide the weight onto the bolts. I found that it wasn't too hard that way since I could keep both hands on the weight the whole time and I'm not strong enough to pick up 140# with one hand.

I use my swing boom on my truck to do the lifting. can be fun to get it set up depending on if you have them dished in or out but have found it can be done that way or with a chain hoist or com-a-long. You do have to get the rear wheel in just the right place and the holes lined up just right but it can be done

I found that using about a 5 Ft rod just a bit smaller than the bolt hole works quite well for the 1st weight. I roll the weight close to the tractor, then insert the rod in one of the weight holes. With the tractor wheel jacked up, align the rod with the weight in one of the wheel holes. Then turn the wheel to pull the weight up to the top so you can put in the two middle bolts. Then pull the rod out and put in the last two bolts. Works good for one weight but not sure if it would work if you are putting on multipe weights.
