Hy Tran oil

Have a Farmall 450 that I need to change the trans/diff oil. Have learned that it takes Hy Tran. My question: Car Quest has their premium hydraulic oil that says it can be used in IH as Hy Tran fluid. Also says on the 5 gallon bucket that it meets MS 1207 and MS 1209 plus many others. Would it be okay to use this CarQuest oil??? It is about $18 cheaper per 5 gallon bucket than Hy Tran from the CaseIH dealer.

If it meets hytran specs, go ahead and use it. Some people are fussy about what they put in the hydraulic system, but since this is just going in the transmission, I wouldn't worry about it.

Any Trans/Hydraulic oil will work fine in a 450.If you live in a cold climate like Wisconsin just don't use TA until the oil has a chance to warm up. Most Trans/Hydraulic oils have a higher viscosity to meet the specs of many tractor manufacturers that call for a heavier viscosity. Most of these universal fluids are in the very high viscosity range for IH tractors. In the cold they are too thick. Not a problem if temps are above 30.
