47 H oil seals

restoring an H trying to figure out how to remove the oil seals on the brake drum shafts and the shaft that goes through the rear housing and holds the brake and clutch petals. both are leaking and i wanna replace before i strip and primer thanks.

What worked for me was to use a small 2-jaw puller. It was disassembled to work the jaws in between the shaft and seal then re-assembled to pull on the seal. They came right out. Another method is to use "cutting screws" driven in the side of the old seal in 3 or 4 places. You can pry them out by the screw heads. The problem with this method is that it makes small chips that can end up where you don't want them.

Original seals will have a double thickness - a seal and felt dust shield. The replacements will be considerably thinner and only contain a lip seal. Some folks install just one, yet others put 2 seals with light grease smeared between them. If the new lip seal is not in the groove made by the original, one should be sufficient.

If the above methods fail, follow the procedure given by The Tractor Vet posted a few days back.

Don't try!!!!
The "retainer plate" is part of the pinion gear assembly and cannot be removed without taking the large bull gear out first.
There are several articles about the proceedures in this forum; try a search.
