Hi all, I am new to this board. I have split my cub to fix the clutch (it was dragging). I have a rebuilt pressure plate that I bought years ago but never installed. When I compare it to the one on the tractor, they look identical, however the actuating fingers are about an inch higher than the one on the tractor now. The repair book I have lists several possible pressure plates used, but, I have no idea which one I have now. Does anyone have any advise about this? What should the distance from the flywheel surface to the fingers be? Many thanks in advance. Chris in CT

Is that with them both laying on the bench or do you still have the one on the fly wheel?? If still on the fly wheel that maybe what your seeing. I might be able to answer more but been years since I have been into a clutch on a cub and I would have to look in the I-T manual for the answers which if your working on the tractor you should already have one of or one like it by some other company

fingers sould have adjusting screws that allow adjustment of height. dont have my shop manual here at work. maybe you can get it on line. good luck, d. coleman

1 1/4" (manual says 1 1/8") from the face of the disk to the throwout bearing contact surface of the fingers. Pressure plate and disk are mounted to make these measurements. Keep the finger heights to within .010"

FarmallCub.com has a section on adjusting the pressure plate fingers - pictures included

Christopher,
If your clutch has 3 springs it is an Auburn. If it has 6 springs it is a Rockford.

For a Rockford Clutch, my I&T manual calls for a Release Lever height of 2 7/32" from the face of the Pressure Plate to the Release Bearing (throw-out bearing)contacting surfaces of the Release Levers.

I have seen the 1 1/4" measurement cited as a Release Lever height in several places on the web but I don"t know if it is for an Auburn or a Rockford, what manual it comes from or what they are measuring from (back of the pressure plate?). Maybe someone will let both of us know.

Fyi - I"m just finishing a rebuild of the engine for my Cub. I"m going to see if I can find a new Rockford Pressure Plate assembly next month at the Auburn, IN show.

Good luck with your project,
Art

Some of the difference is going to be due to the new vs. worn pressure plate, for sure.

Some of it may be because the old pressure plate is out of adjustment.

Some of it may be because the new pressure plate is out of adjustment.

Simply adjust the new pressure plate to the proper specification, and don't worry too much about it :)
