Farmall H Lift-All seal

I have a 1951 H with a LiftAll. I am going through the entire tractor and need some guidance on how I can replace the seal on the input of the lift unit. I am sure the end piece unthreads but how does one lock things up so it can be removed?
Thanks

It does screw off. Just take a soft punch and hammer and give it some mighty wacks in counter clockwise direction. May take several blows, other wise you may need to take it all apart.

Thanks for the reply. Is there a parts blow up anywhere I can use as a reference for the teardown? The end piece turns too easily, I tried a brass punch but all it did was spin the end.
Thanks

If I recall you have to put a brass rod down the filler hole and lock up the gears, then you can unscrew the fitting. I think it is left hand threads but it has been a long time since I changed mine.

I did mine last year. You will have to remove the Lift-all unit from the tractor, remove the pump from the reservoir and insert a piece of flat stock to hold the gears while you unscrew the coupler from the shaft. At that point, the seal is easy to get at.
While it is a lot of work, it also gives you the opportunity to clean out the reservoir. Mine was full of milky muck from too many years of moisture and no fluid changes.
If you need more details on what's involved, just shoot me an email.

I did one recently. If you want to see a diagram, I think you can on the Case-IH website. However, once you remove it from the tractor, everything will become obvious. I found lots ofgood info and advice in the archives on this site.

That"s perfect. Just what I wanted. I already have the pump out, just wanted to be sure I wouldn"t foul anything up by pulling the cover bolts. Thanks for the guidance, it really helped. I spent a lot of time on one of these back in the late sixties on a dairy farm in Vermont. I"m restoring this one as a tribute to the fellow that owned the farm. He was a Navy buddy of my father"s through the second world war and an inspiration to me.
Thanks again.

VERY nice website! There is a lot of good info on there.

I forgot to say that that H is aweful. I have seen better machines at the salvage yard.
