Farmall H exhaust manifold

Hi the pipe broke off my exhaust manifold on my Farmall H. The part # is 6712D. I am looking at some manifolds on ebay and they look different from what I have. Any one familiar with this part #.

What I have broke on the top which is a fitting that bolts to the manifold like a stack. It had been brazed once upon a time and the braze broke. These other manifolds on ebay look simpler.

I do not think I can separate the top part due to rust. The bolts look too baked in. I will probably try.

Hope I have explained it enough
thanks

Dave, sounds like you have a distillate manifold. The other's that you see on eBay are gasoline. Depending upon what you want to do, you can get that top part from a couple of places......or you can just get a gasoline one. Steiner sells the part you need, part # IHS779, and it is on page #174 of their current catalog.

All depends upon what you want from an "originality" perspective.

Others may also have this part, I just had the Steiner book handy by the PC.......................

They sell manifolds at this site also. They would be the gas type that is threaded for a pipe. I don't think you'll find your style new but possibly used.

Thanks for the heads up. I am not interested in so much
originality, just functionality. Will the gasoline manifold be a
problem in any way?

I never new about the distillate. What is is it? The manifold does
have parts froze up on it. Does the gas manifold affect anything
else? Will the carburetor mount up properly? Will any adjustments
need to be made to the fuel system?
thanks

I recommend you support this wonderful site (Yesterdays Tractor) and purchase a new manifold and gaskets through them. Well worth never having to deal with the rusted out manifold in your life time!

Dave, the distillate manifold was used for dual fuel tractors, ie. could run on Gas or distillate (or kerosene). They have a chamber with a butterfly valve that redirect exhaust gasses through the manifold to heat it up to help vaporize the distillate or Kerosene.

The distillate or gasoline manifolds are totally interchangable. If you happen to have a distillate carb, if you are looking for optimal performance on gas, you will want to change out the jets, BUT THAT IS NOT REQUIRED.

Depending upon the condition of your existing manifold, that should decide whether you spend $75 for the replacement part, or just buy a new gas manifold.

Either way, there are no required modifications to interchange those manifolds.

As always, IMHO.

What part did he break? I didn't understand it from his description. When I broke my pipe out I took it to the welding shop and had it welded in. Obviously it is cast so it takes some special skills to weld it. A professional welder has a lot more options than we do.

Which part did you break?

If it was just this:

Steiner sells that exhaust stack for $75 I believe.

If you just want to get a new manifold, I'll take the broken one. I might be able to salvage some of it for my distillate tractor.

The gas manifold fits and works fine. I have one on my H (that was distilate originally). Carb fits the same. If it was running good, your adjustments should stay the same.

Distilate is like kerosene. It was a cheap fuel in the 30s and 40s.

hi it was the 6713 part, it was brazed once before and broke along
the brazing. It is very rusted. I am going tpo change it out to a gas
manifold.
