H lack of power

The old girl decided to start acting up the other day. Began to lose power while pushing snow. Checked compression today and is 105-110 on all 4. Reset the carb and got it to sound like full power is there at WOT. Start to put a load on and drags it down. This happens just putting it in gear. Have the Lift-all wired back and doesn't seem to matter when lifting/lowering the bucket. Also is really slow returning to idle. Last week it had a real nice idle just popping the rain cover a little. Now it has a loud crack. Put in new plugs with no change. Cables were replaced in Jan. along with cap, rotor and points. Governor problem maybe?

sounds like a broken/tired governor spring, the fly weights could be worn or a bearing/bushing shot, or just out of adjustment. Just take the side cover off and take a look for these things start with the spring and then look further into it if thats not the case.

Could Also Be broken advance in the distributor. Turn the rotor (CW) and it should be springy for 15 degrees or so then spring back Loose bushings can also cause irratic running. Jim

I was thinking more like manifold vacuum leak. It will cause it to run lean and give no power but still could cause the slow idle response due to sucking air after the butterfly and still getting fuel.

I recently had some similar troubles with an H and an M with manifold leaks.

I can always be wrong but I don't think its in the governor.

I pulled the cover off but couldn't see any signs of broken/worn parts. Did note that the governor sleeve was slow to return so I sprayed the area down with PB Blaster. Actually the whole area seemed like it didn't get much oil in it as most of the parts were fairly dry. Put it back together and it is working much better. Now to find out if she is really running on all four cylinders.

If you installed new points just recently, I would check and make sure the point gap didn't change. Maybe you didn't get that little screw quite tight enough?

Turns out I did not replace the points (too many motors and not enough memory) just the cap and rotor. Points are shot so that gets done tomorrow. Since there is little or no gap on the points I am surprised she is running at all.
