Farmall 450 (gas) Water in Oil pan

OK, just want to get all the possible scenarios before diving in. I was starting to drain the Oil, when the plug was almost out, it started dripping. Clear water, about 1/2 cup. Then the rest of the 2 gallons was a light tan color.

I'm thinking Head Gasket, but want to make sure I check all other possibilities that are easier.

Any easier gaskets to check?)

Thanks
Tony

I think it is just condensation. It would be green if coolant was leaking into the oil pan, assuming you have antifreeze in the radiator.

I don't want to bring bad news . I have a 400 that I rebuilt. Had the head to machine shop did the whole nine yards on it. 6 months later, to change oil; same as yours, 1/2 cup water with anti freeze in it. Turned out to be crack in head along valve guide unrepairable in my case.Very fine crack not visible with magnuflux only with pressure test. Hope yours is gasket but these farmall heads seem to like to crack. Good luck let us know what you find. Tony

How long ago did you change the oil? I think its just condensation also. If you havent changed the oil in a year or two or if you never get the tractor real hot i would think its just condensation.

Ok think this out a bit. You have antifreeze in the radiator right??? If yes then go back to that water in the oil pan. Was it green??? If yes you have a problem if no you only have condensation and no problem other then the weather getting warm cold and having a lot of moisture in the air. Ya I could have just said condensation but wanted yo to think about it so as to help you understand

Thanks for all the comments.

The water was CLEAR. The Oil is about 1 year old. I changed it in the spring. Worked with the tractor all summer. Then started sitting for the next 4 months, no reason to run.

Should I be running her for an hours or so a week, just idleing to keep out the condensation? or will it even help?
Thanks
Tony

One other thing.

I do have Green Radiator fluid. That's why I was a little confused about the CLEAR water. I was ASSUMING (yea, I know what that means) that somehow the green part mixed more with the oil and left the clear water in the bottom... Can it actually happen like that???
I really like the condensation a bunch more!

Since it sat idle for 4 months, then the water came from condensation. There will be water in the rearend, tranny & TA housing too. Might want to crack the drain plugs and let the water out before it gets mixed in with the oil when you drive the tractor around. I would not worry a lot about the condensation, even operating the tractor will not keep condensation out, it just serves to evaporate what has gathered.

No.

Thanks Kirk,

I also just found out I am missing a gasket. Probably not good. Do you happen to know if this is a rubber or cork gasket for #8.

This has been missing since I bought it about 1 year ago. So it was just a metal to metal seal...

Could be condensation. If the rest of the oil was tan I bet it's a head gasket, the water/oil was emulsified, then some of the water settled out over time. Change the oil, run it, and recheck before doing the head gasket. I had water in my oil and a new hd gasket fixed it.

The oil fill cap gasket is still available new. I bought several from a member of this site, RustyFarmall. The new gasket I got from Rusty is type of thick paper/thin cardboard. It probably does not matter what you make the gasket out of, rubber cut out of an old innertube, cork or thin cardboard cut out of gasket material or a cereal box.

Nope anti freeze will not mix like that and that is why I answer you the way I did so as to maybe male it clearer as to what your problem probably was
