I have a 706 gas that only runs for about 10 minutes before it starts popping loud then full backfiring with the addition of flames out the exhaust. If anyone has a good suggestion, I"m open to all ideas. Does anyone also know if there is a kit to convert the points to eletronic?

Well now that is a new one on me , But lets start off with checking fuel flow first from the tank to the carb and see if you have a unrestricted flow .Next i would check the coil and the ing. system as what you are sayen sounds like something is shuting off the juice to the points and with the backfire it is coming back on with a load of gas in the exhaust . Now yo did not say if this is under full load or not . ONe other thing to keep in mind here on the gassers that you must run HIGHTEST of 93 octane or better and that timing on them is most important . Now here on the timing of a 706 you have to know FOR SURE what engine you have as a C263 does not time the same as a C291 and if it has say a 301 out of a combine then that does not time up the same. So before we get into a lot check the the things i told you to check then we will go from there
.

A thought: - If flames are coming out of the exhaust then it,s not backfiring-its banging on after it's fired. So maybe a bent or simply sticking exhaust valve. Or even more simple an exhaust valve out of adjustment. I know that shouldn't happen but!!! Luck MTF

I agree with tractor vet on this one. There is raw fuel getting into your exhaust then when the ignition starts fireing again, that fuel is ignited and you get your backfire. it sounds like for one reason or another, your ignition is cutting in and out. I'd do an ignition tuneup first and see where you are.
