W6 hydraulics

Is it possible to add hydraulics to a W6 that doesn't have it? If so, can anyone tell what I need or look for?

Hydraulics can be added...you will need a live pump off of an M-450,hoses from pump to reservoir, and a control valve. The original res mounted under the gas tank and had had the bypass mounted directly to it.If you could come up with a good original res and valve,it would be much easier. The parts book should show hose and valve mounting locations.

also to add, if you go with a IH pump you will need the front timing cover off a late M or SM or 400 or 450 for the pump to mount to. If your tractor is newer then late 48 then you most likely already have the late timing cover and are good to go. Also if you have to replace the timing cover change the cam gear off as well to a later one as they are made heavier and not so prone to breakage. Orrrrr if you have an earlier w6 and do not want to go though that then you could look for a M&W live pump for the M/W6 engine. This would be a direct bolt on.

Silly question, doesn't the pump mount behind the distributer? I have a '51, my buddy has a '45. We both would like hydraulics.

yes it bolts right in front of the dist. You would be all set and could bolt a IH pump right to yours with no problem. Your friend would have to do the modification or use the M&W pump like i said in the other post.

I've seen guys use the rear end trany housing for the oil reseviour. just draw oil of the drain plug hole dump it back in on your fill hole. Friend has had his W6 set up that way for 20 yrs no problem, uses it on Dual 325 loader. Any IH or MW live pump should bolt right in front of mag, replacing mag drive housing.
