No1 engine oil in a Detroit Diesel

I read somewhere about using the wrong oil in a 2 stroke Detroit can cause coking around the exhaust ports. My operators manual specifies API CD-II with a sulfated ash limit ASTM D-874. IH No 1 30wt has API CF-2 CF and SL specs. Does anyone know if IH No 1 meets Detroit specs?
Thanks,
Dave

don't know about IH oil, but have used several different brands of diesel grade motor oil in them with no problems, those were tough engines unlike these tempermental things of today

Maybe not a good idea.Detroit Diesel always recommended a single grade oil for the 2 cycle engines,at least the 53 and 71 series. The problem was and is still the engine running away and wildly overspeeding whatever is coupled to it. What happens in a worn engine is it sucks the oil up out of the oil pan and burns it with great smoke and noise, they stop after consuming all the oil or throwing a rod. If it were mine i would stick to a single grade(viscosity) 30 or 40 weight oil. That^s what Detroit has said for years

We use low ash #40 wt oil in all our "double breasted yamaha"s". I"m not sure they are that tough as I work on them everyday. They are known around here as "green leakers".
