450 LP head revisited

Thank you, D and Jim for your previous responses. I checked the picture in Parts & Pieces and it looks like I'll be OK. Here is the pic of the head and manifold. Does this look like the correct one to you? Thanks again for your help. Dan

FWIW, the manifold looks like the one on my SMTA. I think the 450LP were separate intake and exhaust. Y-shaped on the intake.

Can't see much of the head but it looks like mine.

I suppose you know that 450LP heads are quite valuable. Between $1000 and $1500, maybe higher now. There is a good chance yours was replaced and is now on a pulling tractor. Remove the Behlen and valve cover for confirmation.

Best I can tell in picture thats the latest 400 LP and also the 450 LP head. To be sure the non LP heads of that type will have very little dip between where the cylinder head nuts contact the head on the left side. Almost flat across between head studs. LP will have pockets a lot of crud can collect in. Manifold is a # 8035 DD gasoline type, originaly came on M tractors serial # 294708 and higher along with SM and SMTA tractors. Like Wardner posted the original type was seperated at intake and exaust above carburetor.

Thanks for all your input, guys. It's getting very interesting now as to what I really have. I see on Stew's pics where the serial number is so tomorrow I'll remove the valve cover and find out for sure. I'll let you know. Thanks again. Dan

The "Y" shaped divorced L.P manifold [ 2 piece] was made by Johnson and are almost as costly to by . There is one on EBAY right now and just the manifols is like $500.00 .

The 450 L.P manifold is 1 piece but the divorced style . Meaning the heat from the exhaust doesnt heat the intake at all.

I paid for a orignal 450 L.P intake $480.00 five years ago before we could by them after market.

If anyone is looking for a "M" L.P carb and regulator [brass] i have a perfect one i restored and never used. I had it glass beaded and clear coated. This came from a Johnson set up.

Here is the link to the manifold at Steiner's. http://www.external_link/IHS659-propane-manifold
Only $250 Pretty sad when you can say [u:ef567db704]only[/u:ef567db704] at that price.
