J-4 Magneto reloaded

Okay Boys and Girls, on to chapter 2 of my journey into the fourth ring of Hell. I pulled the Mag off once I found no spark anywhere and I was still reading everything shorted to ground...The impulse section seems to be working fine, I turn it and I get a good clean Clack out of it when it releases. But no spark at all at the points. Question? What should I be reading Ohm wise thru the coil wire and the HV button on top??? I'm getting about 9ohms with it still hooked up w/the points/Condenser and such. Or wait to test it until I pull it apart and test everything separately??? :shock:
 
The wire to the points and the ground tab on coil have to disconnected to check it. Points wire to the center secondary output button should read no more than 12,000 ohms max secondary resistance. More than that or no reading at all it"s bad. Then from the points to the ground tab on side of the coil no more than .4 ohms max primary resistance. Again more or nothing it"s bad. You may get decent readings there and the coil could still be bad because of windings or insulation breaking down inside that only be checked on a coil tester that does a load heat firing test. Same readings also work for the IH H4 magneto.

Its as you say, I took the coil completely out and I get .4 ohms wire to ground strap... But no reading or O/L from wire to HV button...Damn. So even tho its a HV winding at the button I should still be getting some reading Right??? Crap looks like a Rebuild kit for me. Thanks for the Help.
