Farmall 966

Hi
I have a 966 that has differential lock that does not work. It was stuck and I got it to go down, but still no work, and have to pull it up by hand.
How do you take the pedal unit off the tractor?
Does anyone have a brakedown view?
I sure don't want to take the cab and floor boards off.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's been years since I sold off my 966, but you may have sheared a pin?? I can't remember if that used a hydraulic actuator or if it is a manual linkage. You could maybe find a service manual for it at TSC or other ag supply store.

To remove the valve you need to remove the rubber cap. There is a small snap ring that holds the disk on the valve stem. The valve is removed from the underside of the cab.

If you are expecting the differential lock to completely lock both rear wheels together it's not going to happen. A good working diff lock on a 66 series at best will cause the front tire side walls to flex a little if you are turning on dry ground but the tractor will still turn. Barring excessive front end weights, an 86 series diff lock will cause the front tires to slide under the same conditions.

Thank you for the info. Yes another fellow here said the same. the lock does not hold like the newer ones. I had hoped it was more like the 484, it lock, the front wheels will just slide.
