Bolted to the seat box is a machined block that apparently the hydraulic lines to the fast hitch cylinder used to go through. The previous owner bypassed it. Fast hitch works fine. I dissasembled it and it appears to have a piston in it. What is that for?

its a check valve. my 240 u has one. there were single and double acting. they hold the cylinder pressure for the cylinder on the fast hitch. when i rebuilt mine i got o-rings from napa. they were close but not right and the hitch would creep down. a trip to the case i-h dealer and i got the correct ones and the valve holds good now.

It really comes into play when you have a heavy implement on the back such as a disk or plow. If its not in the system then there is a greater chance of dropping the hitch to fast and damaging the implement.
