706 squeaking rear end

Over summer the tractor started squeaking when in reverse, not long later it started squeaking in foward gears. Almost sounds like a axle bearing could be bad. Anyone got any thoughts. I have it in the shop now ready to look at it.

Are all the rim & axle mounting bolts tight? Jack up 1 side at a time & roll the wheel to see if you can locate which side is making noise. If not either side, could be in the differential or range/ speed area.

Brownie has the answer I think. After checking the tightness with a wrench. Put a dab of fingernail polish on each rim clamp, and axle clamp at the axle. Let it dry, then drive it around squeeking. Look at the polish and where it is broken or crached it is loose.
Some bolts may need to be loosened then tightened to assure a true tightness. Using anti sieze on the threads can help. They must be tight. If it still squeeks, I would use a stethescope to listen to the axle. A 1/2" dowel will also work. to listen with. Be careful. Jim

yes they are tight, I have the left side in the air and when I spin it around I don't hear anything unusual. I'm curious if the inner bearing is bad...but then I should feel some resistance when I spin it. but I don't.

Did you EVER CHECK THE OIL LEVEL in the bull gears????? got to do that as they do not lube from the rear frame unless someone had that apart and drill holes so it can .

Do you think it might be the brakes, a broken spring or something. Im not familiar with the 706 brakes but its just an idea. Erik..
