My 50 Cub has a 6v system. The lights work both high and low,but the low beams are more like glow in the dark...the highs are like my lows on my M and C that I have. Also it only charges at about half throttle, unlike my M and C,they both charge all the time.Ant ideas?

Check the voltage at the lite terminal then with the lites on use a jumper from the ground on the batt to a good ground on the lite. If the lite gets btighter when you have the jumper wire to ground you have found the problem. The conections can sure get rusty and change the lites after 50yrs.

What Gene says. Since it is absolutely possible to have good lighting on a six volt system it is up to you to get it there. The one big issue to check is the connections in your electrical system. Make sure your wiring is good and the right gauge. Go thru it component by component and clean every connection. Be sure to identify how each component grounds and clean those grounds. Having done that it is a good idea to check on the genny. Tractor lights put a major load on the charging system and may require some adjusting. If you have a good ammeter try it for yourself. Run the tractor with lights off and then turn them on while watching the ammeter. The drop in charge can be dramatic. In times when you are using the lights a lot it may be necessary to adjust your genny up a bit, if possible. You need to keep the charging rate up to avoid discharging the battery. Don't want it up too much or you may overcharge and heat up the genny. Once adjusted you will want to keep the lights on all the time. On my plow tractor I keep a screwdriver in the toolbox and adjust the genny to a good charging rate as needed. I figure that is why they put a gauge on the tractor and an adjustment on the genny...so I would be able to keep it where it should be.

HTH, Dave...a fan of simple 6v originality.

Might be that the bulbs in those lights are of the 1157 variety, which fit the socket just fine, but since those are designed to be TAIL LIGHT bulbs, they are NOT very bright. The correct bulbs are the 1133 HEAD LAMP bulbs.

I didn't know you could adj. the generator. The bulbs are correct and the wires are new, also I can't see any grounds that would be bad.The gen. was rebuilt so maybe it isn't set right.I'll have to look in my manual. Thanks guys.

I hope I did not give the impression that I was an expert on gennys...thus the "if possible" portion of my comment. The genny I am most familiar with is a 6v, 3 brush, single post genny with a screw on the back which you turn to adjust the third brush up or down. So I took a walk thru the snow and took a look at the Cub here and it has two wires and no adjustment that I could see. My service manual references another manual when it comes to the electrical system so no help there. Maybe your manual will be more helpful. For my part, I have to start shopping out this second manual....more $$$! Got to love a Cub.
