Seat identification on Farmall A (pics)

A friend sent me some pictures to identify the seat on an A that he just purchased. We are both Deere guys and were not sure ourselves.

I knew you Guys could recognize if it was a farmall seat made to fit or if it was an aftermarket of sorts.

Sorry for the aspect of the pictures. I think he was limited on how far away he could get for the shots.

Thanks for your help.

Thats a Monroe aftermarket the made those as they would fit many tractors. They also had a model just made for the A and B series that used the lower left floor bracket. It was made so the belt pulley could be used. I have one if someone want one.

Will, I belive that is off a Farmall M like tractorsam said.
The monroe seat as Gene menstioned was avalable but had a much lower mounting point where the pivot is. oldiron29

For it to be an aftermarket Monroe, I think the shock should be in the back. Looks like the seat off an H or M, or the Stage 1 Super H or M.

Could be. A veg farmer from the east side of Mich stopped in to take a look at it and he said he has two Super A cutlivating tractors with the exact seat and he said it was a factory option.
I looked in the IH parts page and couldn't find it.

It's not a factory option. Any aftermarket seat could have been installed by the dealer before sale, as the one on my Dad's H was, but it is not factory. In my first post I said the Monroe aftermarket seat for the A/B had the shock behind the spring, later pictures proved me wrong. However the seat in question is an H/M factory seat, no question about that. Before I started reading this forum more than 10 years ago I thought the seat on my Dads H was factory, because he bought it new with it. It had the shock behind the spring. I thought the seat with the shock under the seat replaced it -- It did but that was an IH seat, likely made by Monroe but installed at the factory. The aftermarket Monroe seats for any letter series tractor are not listed in the parts books.

where do you get factory option as there werent no such thing. In those days dealers had several brands of aftermarket seats for all models of tractors another brand that was common was Knoedler they also had several models for different brands of tractors.

Thanks guys. That's was our thoughts as well. Just a retrofit of a seat off an H or M, but we wanted to make sure.

Thanks again

If this was a factory option they would likely not left the pan seat mounting bracket on as is shown in the photo. The seat was likely from an H and installed later. Just my opinion
