Removing Super A Hydraulics

I have a Super A that has a bad hydraulic pump, as the fluid goes straight to the crankcase. I"m thinking about removing the entire system. Other than pulling everything off, putting a plate over the pump opening, and finding a tank bracket to hold the fuel tank up, is there anything else I should know? Will the fuel tank bracket off of a standard A work? I"m not sure if they changed the torque tube casting on the Super A"s to accomodate the hydraulic system. Thanks for your help! :)

WHY do you want to remove it and make the tractor into an "A"?

Have you tried to reseal the pump or is there too much shaft/bushing wear?.

If that isn't feasible at this time, just remove the gear from the pump so it won't "die" from lack of lube from an empty reservoir, then some day when you want to fix it or sell it the tractor will be (almost) intact.

I just pulled it off and I don't think it's in too bad of shape, but I haven't checked to see whether it's way outside it's tolerances or not. I use the tractor for tractor pulling, so I wouldn't mind just taking everything off so I can lighten it up and also help balance it a little more. I just figured I would consider my options at this point and see whether or not it is as easy as I'm thinking to take it all off.

You are going to damage the value on your tractor. Next guy is going to do some mental math on finding those parts and deduct them from your asking price or look elsewhere. I think I would reconsider.

If it was mine and I needed to use it but couldn"t fix the hydro"s then I"d just pull the gear off the pump and reassemble everything. If you wan"t to use it for pulling and you"re that worried about it there"s no reason you can"t pull the touch control off. You will likely have to fabricate your own tank support as I don"t think the one from an A will work. That said keep all of the parts in case you ever want to reassemble it to what it should be. You can remove the rockshaft assy then use the regular rear bracket for an A or B. I will send you one if you pay the postage.

All it probably needs is an oring for the shaft on the pump. Nothing worse than a tractor missing parts, if you ever try to sell it.

Save the parts if you take them off. That'll keep the guys happy who say you're ruining your tractor. You can re-seal the pump and put everything back on, and the buyer will be none the wiser.

Frankly, enjoy the tractor and do whatever you want to it. Tractor collecting has never been a profitable venture. The tractor will never be worth as much as you put into it, and you will always sell it at a loss.

Besides, who knows where this will be in 10-20 years? It'll probably be one of two places:

1. All these tractors will be worthless.
2. All these tractors will be super-valuable.

Either way, it won't matter that you took the hydraulics off. Either you'll lose your butt, or you'll make a windfall when you sell it.
