I have a 1959 Farmall that has 3/4 round of play in the steering wheel . I bought the chassis manual for this tractor and it states to do a "Front End Split" to be able to get to front steering gear housing .
Looking closely it looks like a lot of play coming from the key stock .
Question has anyone removed and replaced the steering arm with out doing the "
Front End Split " Of course the front axle will have to be removed .
Any one who has done this - please share what you ran into .
Thanks

I did my 65 140 and the arm on the bottom of the steering box was loose. and the woodruff key in the steering box was worren and the slot it fits in was lose. so i jb welded in the woodruff key. and now the steering is much much tighter. Bob

I have all the bushings and bearings to completely rebuild steering box .
Question can it be done with out doing the front split ?

I am doing mine now. I had to split the steering box. I am in Pollocksville, NC if you want to see how it is done mine will be apart for another week

Welding the sector gear to the shaft will do wonders for tighter steering. Usually it is quite worn at the union of the two.
