I find it very interesting that forum members here are always mentioning their older cars and trucks. It seems that if you have moderate mechanical skills, like old tractors you are not intimidated by older vehicles.
Also your mech skills allow you seek out the best of the production models, ie the 12V Cummins Turbo Diesels in the pre 98 Rams.
Just curious of the years of your various road vehicles.
Gordo...96 Dodge CTD, 97 F150 V6, 97 Tracker 16V
82 Honda 500CXTurboCharged.

In order of frequently driven: 1991 Ford F-350 crew-cab dually w/ IHC 7.3,2003 FLSTSI Harley Davidson, 1962 Landrover series IIA diesel, 1977 AMC Pacer, a 1942 GMC firetruck, 1947 Cadillac Hearse and a few extra Landrovers for parts!

I have a 1998 Buick Park Avenue with just around 240,000 miles on it...original engine and 3rd trans. My daily driver in the summer is a 1976 Chevy C20 with original everything and an actual 58K miles on it. I don't drive much in the summer except to the hayfield, feed store, Steiners.

Shoot most of yours is to new. My newest is a Mitsubishi truck and it is a 1993. My wife's car is a 1990 Toyota Corolla and then I have my hauling truck which is a 1980 Chev. I also have a 1986 Isuzu pup pick up[ and a 1965 Ford 1 ton with dump bed but the last 2 are not legal on the road. I would love to get the old ford back on the road but parts for it are just plain to high to do so with it needing brakes, king pins and the wiring all redone

'98 12 valve Cummins Dodge 3500 4x4 dump truck.

'40 Knucklehead Harley-Davidson (sidecar on occasion).

Would like to put my first vehicle (purchased 1960) back on the road. '47 KB-5 International 12' flatbed. It currently has a 4-53 Detroit Diesel. Been thinking about putting a Dana 60 under the front end.

Had a call from an old friend who wants to hire my '32 Ford ice cream truck this summer for a special event. I haven't run it in 30+ years. I rather spend the time building a W or F-400 ice cream vending tractor.

I have a bunch of other stuff I may never get around to. Pre-eminant is a '40 FT model, C-cab, chain drive, Mack on 24" rubber. It has a matching 50 ton solid tire 10' wide Rodgers low-bed trailer. My 3/4 swing 10-20 powered Bay City back hoe would fit nicely.

92 F-350 crew cab with a 98 12V Cummins 5.9, NV4500 5spd. Was a 7.3 IDI auto that I converted.

80 IHC 1854 crew cab. Started life with 345 and auto. being converted to DT466 and a 13spd O/D trans.

63 Galaxie 500 4 door sedan. Building a 390 to put in that ole girl. Backed up by a C6.

27 T-touring hotrod. Jag 5.3 V-12 and independent rear end. Suicide front. Big project. Unfortunately has a GMC trans in it. That will disappear though.

And Last but not least I am working on buying a 20 Stephens convertable. It was built about 10 miles from me. My uncle owns one and it has never left the town it was made in. Title wise that is. He is the second owner.

they make more power, but have more problems, fuel milage isnt as good, and the engines have a shorter time between overhauls, there is more to consider than just hp
the 12v's just sit in there and run, they usually need a waterpump and starter in the mid hundred thousands and thats about it if they
get reasonable mantenence, they;ll pull the same loads as the 24v, slower, but they'll get there

Until rust sidelined it last fall, I ran a 1973 IH pickup with 345 & auto. Most I ever did to it was the front engine seal & reverse band in the tranny [Chrysler trans].
I've now got an 89 Ford which is in the shop for an engine miss at cruising speed. Also an 89 Ford with 302 that wouldn't build up oil pressure this morning. I'll take an IH any day for reliability.
They all get the same mileage ---14 whether loaded or empty. I thought the Ford 6-cyl would do better.

Have you reset your fuel plate? That alone will increase your torque about 50%. Mileage won't suffer if you keep your foot out of it. It'll roll some smoke if you lug it.
And you should install pyrometer cause you can definitely pull a load uphill.

'06 Dodge 2500 w/ CTD, automatic. Pulls my 25' gooseneck with a Farmal C and a Case 300 on it with no problems. You do know that it is back their. I get better mileage with the CTD than my Dakota ever thought of getting. My brother has a '96 Dodge w CTD. He is a Cummins pump and injector man but has elected to leave the pump stock. He doesn't pull that much with it anyway.
