What can I do to get my H to run better????

What can I do with an h engine to get it to make some more power....M&W kits seem to be difficult to locate in good condition these days so does anyone else make a big bore piston kit for them anymore?

I thought I was told years ago that an h had dry sleeves and you could pull the sleeve out and run a 706 piston right in the block....not sure if that works or not. Any one know?

I also thought that a super h had a little better manifold and carb on it?

This tractor probably isn't going to see much field work, more of a play toy I guess.

Thank you,
Kyle

There is an overbore kit available, but your H probably already has it. There is also the choice of either the step-head pistons or the flat-tops, and the step-headed pistons WILL make more power, but there is a good chance your H already has those also. To make a long story short, you need to know what your engine has in it now before you can make any wise decisions on replacement parts or upgrades.

Please do NOT discard the sleeves and run bigger pistons. You will only eventually ruin an engine block that is no longer being produced.

This site sells good kits to make it into a SH sized engine (thiner sleeves) an Sh manifols and carb will increase the available air (replacing the aircleaner with SH might also be a good idea. Reground puller cam profile will help. as will RPM boost to 2200 high idle.
Correct timing advance surves, a good distributor bushing, and an electronic ignition, will be in the right direction.
If you want more power, running pistons directly in a rebored engine without sleeves, an M carb and stroker crank can be had. All that is missing is money. If you are pulling in local events, go with the rules they set. JimN

nnalert sells an over bore kit for the H as does this site. Shaving the head say 0.020 or a tad more if you have the room will also increase power. Then using a carb from a Super H might do a little more. Really not all that hard to do things to increase power. Shoot you could always have the head ported and polished and also have the manifold polished which would help some also

The 706 piston only works with a stroker crank. Super H oversize (3 9/16) will run on the block with no sleeves getting up to 169 cu in. The big manifold and carb from super h thru 350 will help. Tune your distributor and governor. Later cams from 300 or 350 will improve power also.

Sounds like you need a good tune-up. New points, condenser, and plugs. Get it timed right and have somebody help you adjust the carb. Unless the engine is worn out and smoking don't mess with it. An H has plenty power for a "play toy" and I do lots of real work with mine.
