966 Hy-Tran leak

My 966 began leaking Hy-Tran out the right side of the tranmission. Looks like it's coming from inside the brake case. Don't know if this has anything to do with it but the differential lock was very hard to push down, then wouldn't come back up unless I pride it up. Don't have any other details because I'm plowing in 4 feet of snow here and it's dark. Any ideas are appreciated.

It sounds like you differential lock is working like most of them, if you try to use it, it leaks. Make sure you get the diff lock control all the way back up to completely stop the oil flow to the diff lock assembly.

There is a line under the cover that gets oil to the diff lock clutch. There is a seal that is supposed to keep the oil from leaking but since the clutch is always revolving around around the end of the tube, the seal gets worn out fairly quickly. Replacing the seal will not necessarily stop the leak because the end of tubing also gets worn.

If the leak is present even if the diff lock is not used, then the cause most likely is the seal between the bull pinion and the diff lock shaft.

I was going to say something like that also, just thought I would let someone else jump in first. Not one of IH's better ideas.

Have you ever seen one that didn't leak if it was used?

We sold a 1066 to a customer, as he was a pretty good friend of mine I told him I would stay away from the diff lock. He bought it anyway and loved it. No problems, couldn't believe it. Only one I ever saw that actally worked out good.
