WHAT IS THE SECRET TO PULLING THE STEERING WHEEL OFF. THEIR IS A COLLAR BEHIND THE HUB THAT PREVENTS GETTING A PULLER BEHIND THE HUB. THANKS

the small collar with the set screw should be forward on the steering post. easiest way i got em off, soak em up with penetrating oil, buzz the nut off and then use an air hammer with a hammer head bit and drive it right off.

Like the others said a 3 jaw puller works well. If that doesnt work or you find yuor sliping off the wheel alot, try a bearing splitter. (clam shell puller) Iv pulled alot this way does not hurt the wheel as bad as putting the jaws right on the wheel center its self.

good luck

Andrew

Punch bit in an air chisel, pull with one hand and run the air gun with the other(use the nut to protect the threads)

(quoted from post at 15:32:20 02/12/10) nope. allen, bought an M and restoring it

If you want to save the steering wheel, take your torch and heat the hub, then spray penetrating oil on the hub as it cools, and then just walk away from it for awhile. Chances are good it will come off much easier now.

If you're not wanting to save the wheel, just cut down through the hub with a hack-saw.
