Well, I bought it....

Thanks for all of the advice. I offered $300 and got the H for parts.
It is in a little worse shape than I'd thought, but the rear rims and
tires look good enough to use. They're 14.9x38, so they'll spread
the weight out a bit. I'll get some photos soon. It's supposed to
come tomorrow, and then I can get a better look.

Well I bought one a few years ago for $400 The back rim are junk, got a hole in the manifold an it won't run so I'd say you done pretty good

Go down to the local IH dealer, lay $300 on the counter and ask for all the H parts you can get for that. Take a shoebox to put them in.

That's the truth, but they'd be all shiny instead of rusty. I'm going to be learning a lot about PB blaster and heat by the time I get this thing apart. I don't know if I can even get the wheel centers off the axles at all, but I don't need them myself and I don't imagine they're probably much in demand either. This is my first parts tractor, so I'm kind of feeling my way as I go.

I'm not sure if you're pulling my leg or if there is such a thing. I
thought the heat shield was welded to the hood, but maybe I'm all
mixed up again. It does have a manifold, but I didn't get too close
of a look yet.

Here in the Eastern panhandle of
WV a H sold for 750. that was junk, but the motor was loose,Tires were gone and sheet metal was shot

Not pulling your leg at all. On distillate tractors, the shield was there to heat the manifold so it could easily burn tracor fuel (distillate) or kerosene.

The one below is for an M, but it looks the same for an H, just a touch smaller.
