MW governor?

I noticed today that my H has m+w in raised letters on the throttle(or whatever the proper term is for that lever, I'm not sure). I didn't see any external markings on the governor, and I'm not sure how to tell. I looked in the archives and people talked about 2 weights vs 4 as a way to tell, but I'm a little nervous to open the cover and look in there, as I don't want to mess anything up. I had noticed when I test drove the tractor after my excursion into the transmission that the governor seemed more responsive than I was used to on the Massey or the Allis but I figured it was just a Farmall thing. I was surprised that it didn't stall in the 20 degree temps we were having at the time. Is there an easy way to tell if it is or not, and could it help the tractor to pull the haybine more easily since it's more responsive? Thanks very much.

M&W governers will have a oval label on the tube going between the gov and the carb. My SMTA has a tag that is riveted on and my H has the oval cast right in to the tube.
M&W made a replacement friction throttle for the tractors that can be found on quite a few machines. Not a great indicator of having a M&W gov.

If you really want to know, just take the cover off. You can't mess anything up. It is just a cover. Nothing will come flying out or pieces won't fall out. If they do, you got bigger problems.

The old notched throttles always slipped. Many folks put the M&W friction throttle on to remedy this.

The governor tube could have the M&W logo, but this would not be necessary as part of the governor work, but most put it on. So not having it on the tube wouldn't mean for certain it is a Farmall gov.

These tractors are pretty snappy. It all depends on the carb and timing settings on if you would be likely to kill it on a cold day running. My experience is most of these old tractors run pretty good with just a basic tuneup. Not alot you can really screw up too bad if you know much at all.
