Problem I think Camsaft Timming Marks are wrong on BN

Anyone have specs as to what Camshaft timing is suposeto be on Farmall BN. I have one that does not look right I compared it to a super C Camshaft and timming marks are off a couple of teeth. If I have deg at when Vaves should be opening I think I can get it right in Time. I know mag drive gear is OK Compared to another and I think one mark(ingnition)on cam gear is correct but crank timming mark and cam mark are wrongWhen No 1 is at TDC. key way is straight up as it should be and mark should be pointing to center line of camshaft but its down 2 teeth or so. and There not a punch mark like book says it should be but a Chisel Mark does not look right Could anyone provide cam specs? Thanks In advance

the book i have, states, mesh single punch mark on the camshaft gear with the double punch mark on the crankshaft gear, mesh double punch mark on camshaft gear with double punch mark on distributor or mag-governor drive gear.

Thanks I have that information. need more technical specs on cam /Vale timming overlap Ect Exaust valve is opening before end of power stroke. Thanks

They should be aligned as shown in Fig IH328. Hal

It is normal for the exaust valve to open before BDC on the power srtoke. When you turn it over TDC on #1, the valves on #4 should be just closeing ex & just opening intake.

I have same Pic . But What I have is chisel Mark on Crank Gear That when on Compression TDc Does not Line up with anything. But Single Dot is 2 Teeth South, as for other side of Cam Gear at the upper left there is a chisel mark there that will not line up with straight with Mag drive gear I have not removed crankshaft or cam shaft there the way I found them I have never heard engine run or have any idea as to how it ran at this timming mark setting. Thanks

I hear ya Oak. Everybody keeps telling you to "line up the punch marks..."

Except, there are NO PUNCH MARKS on the crank gear, right?

Unfortunately, almost everyone goes by the punch marks, not degrees, so it's going to be a tough row to hoe finding someone who knows the actual specs.

IMHO, your best bet will be finding a crank gear that you can use as a template for creating your own punch marks. Maybe you can borrow one from someone who has their engine apart, or has a parts engine laying around? I think the A, B, C, and Supers are all the same.

I thought i read somewhere that on these engines the marks line up for cylinder 4 and not cylinder 1.
am I right or suffering from information overload?
