Farmall A gas cap?

I have a 47 Farmall A that has the original gas cap. With the tank half full or fuller, I get gas slooshing out the breather hole and running all over the top side of the tank. Is my cap bad? Or are they all like this? If so, do the tall caps prevent this? Any help is appreciated, because I am going to paint this trator soon and I don"t want gas running all ove the new paint. Thanks for the help, Keith

....not to mention the potential danger of scorching your keester.

Yes the old caps allow spillage past the gasket, even if new - something about the pressure buildup and the small breather hole (if there is one). The new caps are great. You can fill it up and no more spilling...at least in my experience.
