I purchased a Farmall Super "A" a couple of years ago and have been trying to determine it's year. The serial no. is FAA197756. I have searched everywhere I know, and cannot find this number. Can anyone help.

Thanks

That serial number is for a 47 A. Are you sure that you have a Super A, does it have the touch control unit? If it doesnt is most likley an A. The other thing that may have happened is that the tag/seat bracket was changed over the years. look for the serial number on the engine, it is on a flat cast surface right above the mag/dist. Also look for cast codes on the block and trans. It will have a number like 4 12 T for example, see what that number is and post it here.

I would say it is a 1947. Both the A and Super used FAA in the serial number and both models were built in 1947. Maybe your tractor was originally an A. When I bought my Super A, it was an A rearend with Super A front end. Do you have an oval instrument panel or square? Super As have square. As are oval. Super As have heavy duty rear fenders with 3 holes on each to mount the rockshaft.

I forgot to mention that in 1947, the engine serial number and chassis number would often be the same.
Look for the engine serial number on the block below #1 spark plug.

First things first you dont have a sa. Your A was built in Chicago. SAs were built in Louisville and theur #s started with 250,001

198298 was the last Chicago A in '47. Louisville built As 200001-220829 in '47. Chicago engine and serial numbers matched. Most Louisville numbers didn't but were fairly close.
