282 deisel - Block Heater location

I have a 282 in a 656 that I would like to add a block heater to. I assume the plugs under the manifold would be a suitable location, but wanted to know where everyone else has theirs installed. Thanks.

I had a customer that used his 560 diesel a lot in the winter. He had 2 block heaters in the side of the block. If he needed it soon he could plug in both to warm it up fast. If it was very cold & he needed it in the AM he would plug in the center one overnight. Worked well for him.

Mine was plumbed to come out at a freeze plug, heated in a tank-style heater, and return through the fitting where the temp sensor goes. This worked well (half an hour to an hour of heat with temps in the zero to 20 degree range), but was less than ideal with respect to loss of temp sensor. We tried removing one of the inset square-headed plugs, but didn't manage to loosen it.

I also like the idea of two frost plug heaters. Most are very low wattage, like 600 watts. One will warm it up over a long period of time if protected from wind. I have installed a lot of tank type heaters in my day but I always feel they can upset the balance of the cooling system by providing an additional flow path. This is something you don't need on D 282 as they do have some head problems anyway.
