putting on 1100x16 tires on a IH 1066

I just got a new set of 1100x16 front tires for my IH 1066 went to put them on the tractor and the tire hits the stop on the top of the spindle. What do i do cut off the stop or do I put a spacer between the hub and rim? It only hits by 3/16to a1/4 inch. Thank you

The best thing to do is look for a different set of rims with an offset center to get the tires farther out, if you cut the stops off they are gone for good and if you put spacers in it puts more pressure on the wheel bolts, just my 2 cents

I think what you are talking about are the what I call mud scrapers. If you have 8 bolt wheels like most 1066's are, try taking a hammer and beating them in if they are sticking out some. They are just welded on and sometimes if you beat on them they do come off also. I run 11.00 X 16 on the front of my 1466, 1486 and my 856 and had to do this to all of them.

Don't cut off the stop, bad things can happen. The steering arm can kind of go over center and hit the wide front when you turn short. Then when you try to staighten out it can't go any where. I put a wide front together out of parts and pieces I had laying around and one end didn't have a stop. When I bolted the saddle at the back of the wide front to the frame I was too cheap to buy the special tapered washers that go above the frame rails. Those bolts worked loose when I had the heat houser on so I didn't notice it. Then the steering arm went too far on the end without the stop and when I tried to straighten out the force of the power steering broke the wide front loose from the tractor. It had enough force to break one corner off where the bolt goes through on the wide front and broke out two holes on the upper bolster of the tractor. If you're not far away I have 2 wheels for 1100x16 I would trade for wheels for for 1000x16 probably what you have.

Hey Larry, I'm just curious, but I have 11.00x16's on my 1466 and they fit just fine. I guess I'm wondering what the difference is? If my rims are different or what? Did they have 2 different rim styles or something? Like I said I'm just curious. God bless.
Best wishes,
Jeff
