I was pushing snow for about a half hour when all of a sudden the tractor just stopped running, like it was out of fuel. Dumped sone stabil in and it fired up a few minutes later but quit again. I noticed it would try to fire if I choked it so I figured fuel. I went and got some wd40 and sprayed the cap, coil and wires and it fired right up. I had to spray 4 or 5 times to keep it going until I was finished. Its blowing snow and the ingition was pretty wet the whole time I was running it.

It got to a point where I could tell it was going to die as it would loose power and stumble when you used the hyds or tried to push in 2nd gear. Glad I figured that one out real quick, getting hammered in Md.

Can I dump ispopropal in the tank if I dont have any drygas?

Yes, you can use any gasline antifreeze. You might also consider wrapping the distributor in a plastic wrap to help keep the moisture off of it.

Aint winter fun? Not.

Amazing that Maryland is getting more snow than Maine this yesr. My 1952 "H" (That I brought from MD)hasn't had to plow too much snow this year, but Ole Man Winter isn't over yet!

Grab is right with a plastic bag on the distributor--keeps moisture/ snow out. You might want to check your spark plug wires--if they're fairly old, they could be cross-firing. If the snow is blowing that much you should check your oil bath air cleaner for snow/ ice build-up. If necessary, take the cup inside after use to melt the ice/ snow & make sure the cup is clean before adding new oil.

If spraying the distributor with WD40 makes it run, then why do you insist that you have a FUEL problem???

You have a wet ignition. Nothing is wrong with your gas.

...and bathroom isopropyl alcohol is not drygas. Bathroom alcohol has a bunch of water in it so you'd be defeating the purpose. Use the product that was meant for the job.

Isopropyl will work just fine. Same as gas dry.
Bring your cap in to dry overnight then spray with any silicone spray, ie, boot spray etc.
If dry and warm enough spray dist wires after install and also coil wires.

If you truly do have moisture in the gas, add denatured alcohol. It will take care of any water in the gas the instant you add it!

(quoted from post at 07:45:54 02/06/10) Isopropyl will work just fine. Same as gas dry.

The isopropyl alcholol you keep in your bathroom is 30% WATER.

It might be the same type of alcohol, but it's not the same formulation. Drygas is 100% alcohol.

If you can find Fluid Film, spray it on your distributor and plug wires. It will work better than WD40 and should last all season.
