Super AV (2)

Engine serial number question this time. Is 304974 which looks to me like a 1951. Does not match the seat bracket tag which would indicate an older tractor. Other information on the engine: Directly above the serial number is "FAAM" (yes...VERY clearly...FAA"M") No mistake on that, it is distinct. To the right of the serial number is stamped "FAAV" in smaller letters and sort of running up the corner of the flat spot on the block. Finally, upper right corner, far to the right of the FAAM is a letter D. I am not having a lot of luck deciphering what exactly is up here. What does "FAAM" and "D" mean? Can't find either in my list of prefixes/codes. Any opinions appreciated.

Looks to me like the guy doing the stamping messed up. The proper prefix is FAAVM. M means motor. He apparately saw his mistake and stamed FAAV (which is still wrong). D means 5000 ft altitude attachment. Engine and chassis serials are not supposed to match.

I was wondering if maybe that was an error too. I want to make sure I made myself clear the two serials that do not match are the one on the engine and the one on the tag riveted to the left seat bracket. I thought those two were supposed to be matching unless there was a parts swap at some point. If someone can clarify that point for me I will start looking for casting codes and see if I can figure out which is more likely the correct serial number....or not. Thanks for the input.

The A numbers match up to 201000, the Super A engine and chassis numbers do not match. Both numbers are likely correct. The year is determined by the chassis serial, not the engine, but the two may not be far apart. If it is a 1951, most casting numbers should have a U or W. If an early 1951 there may be some T's.
