I know this has been discussed on here before, but I cannot find it.Wanting to wake up a 460 a little with a 301 gas from a 715 combine. What do I need to use for a back plate, flywheel and torque tube? Is there any machining that needs done or is this all bolt on.
thanks for any replies.

Use whatever is different off the C221.

About the only change you will to make is use longer bolts with nuts for the backing plate to block. Ag engines use threaded holes in the block while the combine has the bolts install the other way with the threads in the bell housing.

Jason - get a copy of the Sept-Oct 2009 Red Power Magazine article in the "From the Shop By the Tractor Doctor" section. There is a good article by The Tractor Doctor and Tractor Nurse, Ron & Jo Anne O"Neill, Oshkosh Wi. tel # (920)-233-1250 for a Farmall 460 gas engine swap.... C-221 to C-301 gas engines. Don"t know if the 715 IH combine engine is any different that that of an 806 301 gas; maybe someone on this forum can comment. The article has very good info and photo"s on the swap you asked about.

Yep, for the most part, just pull the front and rear engine covers off the C221 and put them on the C301. There may be some other accessories that need to be changed, but otherwise it's a bolt-in.
