Distributor moisture

This is an IH240 with a 12v electronic ignition stored in an unheated barn in Western Oregon. I just replaced my cap, rotor and wires. The previous rotor disintegrated and left a bunch of rust in the cap. I have it back together and it is running fine now. There is a hole in the bottom of the cap to let moisture run out. Should I spray a short burst of WD-40 in that hole occasionally to displace the moisture? If so, before or after running?

If the engine is skipping I would remove the cap and give it a spray. Let it air dry {Dries really fast}. Check the inside of the cap now and then to see if there is moisture in it.
Spraying after running might not help since this product dries so quick and the air inside the cap will still be warm and with the cold outside air moisture will still form.
Check it before you run it in the winter.

I wouldn't spray WD-40 inside the distributor. It leaves a film that breaks down and gets gummy over time. That can attract dust and draw moisture INTO the distributor.

Also when freshly sprayed WD-40 is flammable - doesn't mix well with the sparking that goes on inside a distributor!

Lectra-Motive is also flammable so let it air dry and don"t spray it in while the engine is running. Dries very fast with no film.
