22-36 torque specs

Almost ready to reinstall my head on my 1930 22-36.
I need to know the torque value for the cylinder head nuts. Cannot find in my manuals.
Thanks,
Tom

You probably will not find any torque specs listed anywhere. Years ago they just tightened them down til they were "about right" whatever that is.
On my F series tractors, I've torqued them down to 80 lbs. Torquing evenly is critical, starting from center and working your way out in a circular fashion. Not familiar with the 22-36, but I think it is a similar motor.

those studs must be 9/16" so i believe you are quite safe to go to 110 ft.lbs.i dont think they would be just a mild steel .if they are only 1/2" thick then your max would be around 80 ft.lbs. lube your threads also.the studs and nuts are fine thread so thats good.to me 80 lbs. seams on the light side.

I don't know the torque specs, but start at 20 lbs or so and in the middle of the head and work towards both ends equally and side to side at the same time. When all are at 20 then go to 40 or so and do it all over again. Small step by small step is best or you could crush a side or end of the head gasket and have a leak. When you get to and have done the finnal step go over all of the nuts again to make sure all are done. Then the best is get the engine running and up to running temp, turn it off and torque the nuts again while the engine is hot and retorque the manifold nuts too. RichH
