Super C Crank Pulley

I started working on a 53 SC today. Pulled the plugs and looked inside and not too bad. Grabbed the fan and it turns the crank pully but the pistons never came up. This is not good. I put the tractor in gear and rocked it and the motor is locked up. I have read the archives and understand that the pulley is a press fit. Is their a key way? I'm hoping it's as simple as the key was not installed. Any thoughts?

Yes there is a woodruff key for the pulley.

You may need a puller like Bigdog made for his Cub to remove the damper pulley. Hal

Since you can spin the crank pulley I wouldn"t think you will need a puller to remove it. It must be pretty free.

I used a similar set-up to this, and with a propane torch, was free in a matter of minutes. Worked wonderfully!!

Crank pulley is loose enought to pry out with a 6' pry bar. Tried a 24" and couldn't move it. Is this going to be just a matter of putting a new key in. Will it be tight enough?

Permatex has several products for loose fits.
Permatex # 20297 for large gaps.
Permatex Bearing Mount For Close Fits.
Permatex High Strength Sleeve Retainer.

A real loose fit could cause key sheering.
