Farmall H Serial Number

I am looking at purchasing a Farmall H Tractor, however, it is missing the serial number tag on the tractor. The engine block has a FBHM and a six digit number stamped in it. Would that be the same number as the tractor serial number? Can I tell what year the tractor is by checking that number? Thanks for any help!

Look at casting number on it. They will be things like A,B,C etc. Post what those are and some one will be able to tell you what the year is form them. I do not have the list but farmall used a,b,c,d etc etc for year codes

The serial number on the engine block will give you the year of the engine. That may or may not be the original engine for this tractor.

As Old says, the castings have date codes that look like MM/DD/YY, but the year is replaced by a letter that indicates when the part was cast. The major castings would have been made with in some period of weeks or months. That will give you the age of the tractor.

If the engine serial number and the casting codes all line up, you can be pretty confident of when the tractor was made.
