We got all the marks lined up today and got the center gog out of the gear that drives the injector pump. It had been put togehter wrong where somebody had pressed the hub on the key and it wasn't lined up. To top it all off they had pressed the key into the side of the hub and pushed some metral into the orginal key way. I had bought the engine thats in it now and somebody had been into the pump in front of me. I had a new seal put in the front of the pump and to do it the guy had to remove the key. He had to notice that it was all buggered up, but didn;'t say a word to me about it. we're in the process of cleaning the orginal key way up with a file and have a new key to go in place. Thanks for all the info that my eariler post created. Also a big thanks to mu buddy who came by and founf my problem. its hard for me to accept help. always bee so independant and now that i can't it reallyplays on my mind.

Hi John, glad to hear you are on your way to fixing the problem. To help extend the life of the front seal on the injection pump, either add some Diesel fuel conditioner or add a couple of tablespoons of crankcase oil to the fuel tank everytime you add Diesel fuel to the tractor.

These old Bosch injection pumps relied on the the Diesel fuel for lubrication and the lubricity of the new low sulphur Diesel fuel is less.

ok will do. the guy who put my seal in told me to check to be sure the return line wasn't stopped up. we took the line off and the fuel cap and was able to blow air backwards through the line, so using some conditioner makes sense. i bought some to use in a new 2008 dodge dually 6.7 liter i bought last year at christmas and still have some of it left when i read not to add conditioner to the fuel in that truck.
