Hydralics on C

I need more help about subject, please. I ordered the by-pass block via Ebay. Now I need to know what type valve I need to use. I hear the term "open, closed, spooled, etc" but I don"t know what that all means. The directions for the by-pass block say to not block any lines. So I don"t want to mess up the valve installation and cause a problem with the pump. By the way,I saw a original valve for Super C sell for $280 on Ebay. It looked like it had everything except hoses to the remote cylinder.

Thanks

Mike

You want an open center spool valve, You will need to reomve the pipe plug that is in the upper manifold. This will now be the 'in' to the spool vavle. The line that is at the bottom of the bypass block will now be the 'return' or 'out' from the spool valve. This will make a complete loop. here is a spool valve that will work for you in the link. let me know if you need more help my email is open
spool valve

The bypass block comes with instructions on how to hook it up.

Open center vs. closed center is very important.

Really, it means "open WHEN centerED," as in, the flow through the valve is open when the lever is in the center position. Hydraulic oil can flow through the valve freely.

"Closed WHEN centerED" on the other hand, the valve does not allow oil to flow through it when the lever is in the center position. If you use one of these valves on an open center system, the oil will back up and cause damage to the system.

All the old Farmalls have an open center system. The oil circulates through the pipes at low pressure all the time until a lever is pulled. When the lever is pulled, pressure builds and the hydraulic cylinder moves. Advantage here is simplicity.

A closed center system keeps the oil in a pressurized accumulator, and it only flows when the lever is pulled. Advantage here is the capability for higher pressures, and instant response. It also allows multiple valves to operate at once.

Thanks for the excellent help. The explanation and the picture really help. The explanation supports what I thaought but in a lot more detail. Thanks again for your responses.
