Anti Freeze Leak

On my 1940 A I am noticing a lot of antifreeze leaking out of the bell housing. This has been the coldest winter since I have owned it. Is there a soft plug in that area and if so what is involved in making this repair. I have a feeling it isn"t easy.

The people on this site have helped me rebuild this tractor so far and it has been in use for 3 years and runs great.

Yes there is a soft/freeze plug right in the back of the block. It is actually right in back of the flywheel. You will have to split the tractor at the bell housing and remove the flywheel, in order to replace.

When I split the FarmallA I had I set a 12X12 block under the drawbar, then blocked up the engine and then unbolted the steering from the block. Then rolled the front wheels with the steering wheel from under the engine. The hood, radiator, grill and head were already off this tractor when I bought it.

I used an engine hoist to lift the engine after I had removed all the bolts. Keep your bolts separated makes it a lot easier when reinstalling. I use cardboard boxes. Good time to look at your clutch while you have it off. Make a note how the clutch disc faces when removing it so you have it on correctly when reinstalling it. If it's worn close to the rivets have it relined or buy another disc. Hal
