Seat pivot support rod and bushings

Trying to put in a new support rod and bushings on my Monroe aftermarket seat. Length of rod is OK, but cannot get bushings in. Are they supposed to fit part way down the tube on the seat?

Start one side in and then with both hands and all the swear words you know you should be able to force it in. Any rust scale buildup on the inside of the tube will take more cus words.

Thanks, I know quite a few but try not to use them. I can see that this project is going to take a few, like you say. The tube looks good, I cleaned it out with a wire brush down to bare metal. This rod kit came with two flat washers that were on the shaft behind the bushings. They would have to fit inside the tube, correct? But they don't. I did try to get the bushings, without the washers, started in the tube ends, but all they do is squeeze and bunch up.
I don't see how these could be the right ones.

I don't think mine use any washers. If they do they go between the bushing and the frame, not against the pivot. I still think you have the wrong size, where did you get them?

I am with the Cowman. I just did the seat on my '42 H. 45 minutes.....2 skinned knuckles, and I didn't use any new words, but boy oh boy, did I put them together in new ways!!!!!!!!!!

You put the "support rod" in first, then you put a flat washer over it on each side inside the outer tube...the bushing sits against the washer on the inside...the washer also helps center the rod in the housing.

I got the whole "kit" from Steiner's. Called them this morning. They insist that the bushings and washers are the correct size.Said I was the first to complain. I went back out and looked at the seat again and think that the tube is out of round because it was used without bushings a long time before I got it. I will have the tube drilled out just enough so it's true, and see if that will correct the problem. Probably put a new shock in it as well.
Thanks for your input.

Should have looked at my parts book, it shows the washers on the inside as you say. Been a long time since I replaced those parts.
