Can anyone tell me (havent even dug yet, lookin for advice first) what company or site can hook me up with the correct wiring harness setup for a 1955 farmall cub 12 volt (generator and distributor system) correct one the first time and be reasonably (lol) priced? thank you so much for your help!!!

Since IH did not make a Cub with 12V electrical in 1955, what you have is a custom job. As with any custom job, all bets are off on how it's wired.

Hopefully the previous owner simply replaced the 6V generator and regulator with identical 12V versions, and transferred the wiring over. A standard wiring harness appropriate for a 1955 Cub would work in this case.

I purchased an OEM Cub wiring harness from Carter and Gruenwald a few years ago.

I am restoring this tractor for a gentleman, he wanted it switched to 12 volt. i am trying to get the identical setup, as you mentions, just in 12 volt, just didnt know what steps were necessary to make this work out and where to purchase a suitable harness. i greatly appreciate your help and knowledge!

All you need is the correct wiring diagram and then you can make your own wiring harness. It just ain't that hard to do.

If the generator and regulator, lights, coil (or ballast resistor on the original coil), and battery, are 12 volt, the 6volt wiring will be very sufficient. the amps are about twice the value in a 6v system, so its wires will be bigger than those engineered for a 12v system. Jim

What kind of 12v is it? if it is a 1 wire alt then you just bring a wire back to the battery. I would get one of bob Ms diagrams which can be found in the search function on this site and set about an hour of time apart and do it yourself. That way when something doesnt work right you know exactly what to take apart?
