Want to split tractor at torque tube where it connects to rear end housing. Engine is already removed. Anything special I have to do other than taking all the bolts out?

Front lower PTO drive gear has to be removed to allow the pto drive shaft to slide out thru the lower speed transmission shaft.

The lower PTO gear is only a slip fit on the shaft. It is held in place by the front bearing. You will not be able to remove it until the center housing is moved forward. They like to stick on the splines of the shaft so you usually have to wiggle them a little as you move the housing ahead.

With the release of the 2 + 2 series tractors, IH made available a pair of special tools to hold the gear against the bearing to avoid having to remove it from the housing. For the most part they are more trouble than they are worth.
