5288 Steering?????

I bought a 5288 that has really hard steering. The spindles are free, I thought It might be the filter, but I see 3, one spin on filter and 2 cartridge type. Which one is the steering?? and also someone told me before you change one of them there is a blot you turn to keep all the fluid from coming out?? thanks Chad

If you have manual it is pages 92-94. Remove the plug that is below the rear cartridge filter cap, it is at about the 7 o clock position, this is the main filter drain plug, may loose a gallon or two, but doing this will close an internal check valve. Be sure to clean the relief valves located with the filters. Replace all three filters, sounds like it hasn't been done for a while. I change mine at least once a year, depending on hours. If you need diagrams of what I have told you let me know, I may be able to scan out of my manual.
