I have an International 660 with a major oil leak with the power steering cylinder. Hope someone can please help me. Can a person rebuild the steering cylinder or is it a job for a farm shop? I do have manuals for parts and service but found no info on this problem. Would I be able to get parts from a dealer or online? Would there be a place that I could ship it and have it repaired? I would certainly appreciate your help. THANKS!!!!!

I rebuilt mine on my 2606. Repair kit from caseih and you need a vise. 2 or 3 hour job for a novice like me. Unhook the lines and I think 3 bolts with the bolster plate to remove it. Grab the end of the wire in the slot on the cylinder and roll it out. Put the other end in the vise to unscrew the block and shaft from the cylinder. Be nice to have a ring compressor or a home made one with a piece of tin to start the piston and new piston seal back into the cylinder.

Where is it leaking at? Out the end seal on one side or the other? Does the piston move back and forth?

Guess you want to check the rod and cylinder for any pitting which may wear out the new seals, wipers, and o rings.

You can get most of the parts for the steering cylinder through CaseIH, least as far as seals and o-rings you can get all of them I believe as they no longer sell a complete rebuild kit for the 660/560W tractors. The 660 will be a slightly harder than most in that the hydraulic valve is built into the end of the cylinder/housing so there will more parts to keep track of and remember where they go. But as long as you have a service book/manual it should not be too difficult.

I better qualify my answer. I was thinking 656 but you have the 660 which is a different setup. sorry.
