Estimates of how many are left...

Stumbling across that SMDTA last week got me wondering. How many of these old tractors are still around? Not just that model in particular, but any of the old tractors. Ya have to figure a few have burned up in fires. A few more have been sent to scrap. Few more than that have been parted out...
Does anyone have any guestimates on the percentage of originals still left around???

Rain and snow mixed here in Northern CA, Not much better to do;-)~

A fella at an auction a few months back told me of one sitting out in a field here in southern Michigan. Said the guy's kids had shot it full of holes for target practice and it was not salvageable. Never know with these guys if they are on the level or not.

The problem is I am the moron that would buy it and try to fix it up...

I know of 1.5 in SE Wisconsin. One sits on an auger all fall and the other was a good running tractor sold on an auction. I don't know where it is now. I saw a SMD (?) on a hill by a freestall that I have been meaning to ask about. It looks like it has been there a while.

Really, it's impossible to tell how many of any particular model of tractor are left. Even if you opened an online registry, only a small fraction of all tractor owners would ever know about it, and then only a portion of those would actually register their tractors.

I would estimate that we, on this forum site, represent <1% of all tractor owners for example.

I've talked to insurance and salvage people over the years and this is guessing on my part but would say at least a third or more of any model made in the 1950's has been destroyed in some manner. Less successful models probably even higher.
I doubt accurate statistics could be put together on this subject.

(quoted from post at 15:30:59 01/20/10) Well ya moron...get on it b4 some foreigner (outta" stater") jumps on it.

I am pretty sure it is just a Super not a TA. I could clearly see a washed out white circle, but there were no signs of wings anywhere. Maybe it is a ta delete!

I would buy that SMDTA that is all shot up and put a different gas start diesel motor in. Yeah the numbers wouldn't match, but it would still be a SMDTA. 90% of the world wouldn't even notice, the other ten are the goofballs that overpay for them at the auctions and they wouldn't like it... They should go buy their stupid gold demos...

im not sure on how many are left, but this is the kind of deal where you dont want to think too long. unless the seller wants his retirement out of it, then i would leave it there. good luck
