Farmall M transmission input shaft

Super M yes.

Super MTA, 400, and 450 no.

On an M and Super M, there's nothing between the clutch and transmission but a straight shaft.

On the others, the TA and live PTO drive take up that space, and the tractors are longer.

Gear size is the same for a M and SM but the shaft was changed on M tractors near the end of 1951 production and the same shaft was used on SM tractors. Late shaft is just a little different length and a bigger bearing was used on the front of shaft. Input shaft bearing housing, bearing retainer, and the front yoke or coupling were some things changed at the same time. As already said 400 and 450 are different.
